Niehaus Notes
Notes from our last meeting provided by Tim Miller (thank you!)
Ensure prereqs for SCCM Client are part of image
Ensure SCCM Client is NOT in the image (it will be uninstalled and reinstalled anyway)
DaRT tools can be integrated with the image
MDT 2012 Update1 will release around the same time as Win8, and SCCM 2012 SP1 60-90 days later
MDT 2012 can work with SCCM 2007
Get to MDT 2012 first before SCCM 2012 since it’s compatible with both (MDT 2010 is not)
MDT 2012 improvements:
- New monitoring capabilities
- New Integrations
- Integration of DaRT
- Security Compliance Manager
- Windows Recovery Environment
- New Deployment Support
- Deploy to VHD
- Deployment to UEFI computers (SCCM 2012 SP1 will be only other that can)
- Windows Thin PC and POSReady 7
- Improved Wizards
- Powershell in task sequence
- Windows 8 and ADK support
- Many behind-the-scenes improvements: partitioning, user state migration, progress displays, cross-platform deployments, improved clean-up logic, simpler VM template creation
- SC Orchestrator Integration
- Automatically map runbook parameters with TS variables
- Support OS role/feature installation
Switching from SCCM 2007 to SCCM 2012 will require updating some things for 64-bit compatibility (a process that works for 2007 deploying 64-bit OS won’t work in 2012)
Use UDI if you have minimal customizations to wizards, otherwise LTI may be better
Windows 8 WIM is 10% smaller; Win8 PE installs Win7/8 in 10 minutes (instead of 15)
ADK minimum selections for MDT 2012
- Deployment Tools
- Windows Preinstallation Environment
- User State Migration Tool
ADK not compatible with AIK
- WinPE 4.0
- New Feature Packs (.Net Framework 4, PowerShell 3.0 & cmdlets)
- Offline BitLocker enablement - encrypt only used disk space, which speeds up new install due to on-the-fly encryption with minimal (3%) overhead (works w/Win7 as well)
- Some incompatibilities with Windows 7’s setup.exe; should be resolved before RTM
- USMT 5.0: support for Win8 as destination and XP as source
- Created on .
