Sr. SCCM Desktop Engineer
This role is responsible for design and implementation of all aspects of the desktop environment. This includes the design, build, test, and deployment of standard PC images, desktop patches, and software applications/packages for computer users throughout the organization. This position is responsible for managing System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM), End Point Protection (EPP), Windows Server Update Service (WSUS), and other solutions as appropriate for maintaining the highest integrity of the PC and end user environment.

Additionally, this position is instrumental in the design of group policies and the Organizational Unit (OU) structure as it pertains to the PC/user environment. It is also accountable for the quality of the products deployed to end users and providing proper support documentation for the IT Support Services team. The Client Technologies Analyst also researches and resolves complex technical issues and provides technical support to peers and users as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop, deploy, maintain, and support the desktop client images.
  • Create customized scripts and deployment applications/packages for PC's.
  • Develop and maintain detailed documentation as required.
  • Review, test, and deploy monthly desktop patches.
  • Create, test and deploy out of band desktop patches.
  • Provide data gathering and reporting for the desktop environment.
  • Perform testing to verify proper installation and configuration of products created.
  • Perform research activities to stay current on related technologies.
  • Work with vendors to evaluate and recommend new desktop technology.
  • Provide technical support for peers and users as needed.
  • Work closely with management to understand IT support, project, and strategic priorities.
  • Document, track, escalate, and/or resolve incidents and problems as required.
  • Adhere to all department and company processes and policies.
  • Provide after-hours support as required.
  • 5-10% domestic travel may be required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skill and Knowledge Requirements

  • Strong technical knowledge of software packaging, deployment best practices, Active Directory, Group Policy Objects, OU Management, and scripting.
  • Strong technical knowledge of current desktop hardware, software and operating systems required.
  • In-depth and practical knowledge of Microsoft System Center including Configuration Manager, End Point Protection, application/package builds, and integration with WSUS required.
  • Proven ability to create and manage Group Policy and OU structures.
  • Strong sense of urgency and ownership in accepting assignments and delivering results.
  • Proven problem solving skills.
  • Proven ability to prioritize multiple assignments and work through priority conflicts.
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to manage small to mid-sized projects.
  • Must be able to establish strong working relationships with business and IT partners.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Orchestrator and Service Manager a plus.
  • Working knowledge of Windows Server 2012 a plus.
  • Working knowledge of VMware a plus.
  • Understanding of the ITIL process framework a plus.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience.
  • 5-7 years' experience in an IT infrastructure and support environment required.
  • 3-5 years' experience with SCCM, EPP, Microsoft Deployment Toolkit (MDT), and WSUS required.
  • Experience with scripting and automation of tasks. PowerShell is a plus.
